Camille Masson-Talansier, Artist, Curator in regards to the
RENEGADES,Outsider Art Exhibition
Franco-Australian artist and curator Camille Masson-Talansier began her research for RENEGADES: Outsider Art in 2011 while she was the artistic director, curator and artist-in-residence at Weave Art Centre, a Sydney non-government organisation with a mental health focus. Working with Indigenous people in Redfern, Masson-Talansier’s role extended to the psychiatric units of Royal Prince Alfred and Concord hospitals, a detention centre and community bases in urban Sydney, where she created art and social enterprise projects.
Masson-Talansier spent two years as director of Lockhart River Aboriginal Art and Cultural Centre, during which a highlight was her October 2007 artist-in-residency at the Santa Fe Art Institute in New Mexico, USA.
Ten years prior to this while based in France, Masson-Talansier worked with culturally diverse communities, notably Rom and Northern African, and between 1991 and 2007 organised three international sculpture symposia as an agent for Eastern European artists, chiefly Georgian. This led to an intensive immersion in the art of renegades from the political margins, and reinforced her passionate interest in art brut.
A bilingual translator and interpreter, Masson-Talansier studied at Alexander Mackie Art School in Sydney between 1982 and 1986, and earlier at Toulouse Le Mirail University, France.
Camille Masson-Talansier had exhibited in Paris,Sydney,Brisbane and Tbilissi.
